yesterday

yesterday a friend told me about someone she knew who's money was declined at a bakery because it was a boner dollar.

hmmmm....why do people accept money when the security thread is removed from u.s. currency but not if it's a boner dollar? for those of you who have never seen the secret thread inside a 20 dollar bill i have created a special magic trick (black cat included) video for you:

video

once you learn how to remove the thread yourself try to pay at a bakery near you and see if your money is accepted. if it is, i encourage a return visit to pay with a boner dollar followed by a hearty 'thank you' to the baker for the viennoisserie.

i took the train to brooklyn and was serenaded by two cowboys playing musica norteña. one of them winked at me and the other looked at me like i was a jawa.

no!

these were given to me as a gift from my friend ale formenti. he cut them from his mother's old etiquette book and brought them from seregno italy, 4,000 miles o'er the seas, and into my hands.

NO! is a complete sentence!
even in italian.

take that mr. rossi!

mini

i recently discovered miniature portraits. they are beautifully insane! nicholas hilliard was the ringleader of the miniature movement in 16th century europe and all others seemed to follow by example.
in the second half of the 19th century, the development of daguerreotypes and photographs contributed to the decline in popularity of the miniatures. the amount of people on this planet who collect these little pearls are uncountable. there are books about them, blogs, websites, exhibits, and amazing as they are i'm just happy knowing they exist.

radio

when i was a young lady my family ate sunday dinners while listening to old time radio shows. i recently searched for those shows and found one website that streams a few for free and another where you can purchase mp3 cd's that are loaded with shows (their archive is amazing). i know i can always fall back on some sweet rococo but spending time with candy matson and the camel caravan is way more comforting.

m8

when in parigi take m8 to ledru-rollin in search of 5 passage saint antoine (not to be confused with rue saint antoine). get as lost as possible on secret streets in bastille. walk in circles for 2 hours, pass the same starbucks 12 times, the bastille monument 5 or 6 times, find a young man teaching a little boy how to tip tap dance through a glass window and then, somehow, a secret record store on the end of the "passage" will find you. inside the last apartment building on the left side of the street, and through the front door of the bulding, you are welcomed inside the warm tiny store. each wall is covered with every type of book you can imagine and a good record collection for sale. i did not buy any records but while flipping through a random book inside the best secret smallest hidden insane miniature record store in history ever i did discover the ink artist thomas amerlynck.

hungry bird

together, eef barzelay and i produced my favorite painted concept yet. his band clem snide provided the songs that inspired me to create cover art for their new record. it's out on cd february 24th and soon to be released on vinyl too.
watch out!

*special thanks to eef and alix, marcello (r.i.p.), and jsr for always laying out my photos because i have no idea how to use photoshop.

seals

george steinmetz built a motorized hang glider and uses it to fly over the african plains taking photographs from the sky. his flight over a colony of seals is one of my favorite photographs. especially because this photo is taken on nambia's skeleton coast where it is said to be the least visited place in the world (and because i have a soft spot for seals). in this photo steinmetz said he could smell their fishy breath and hear them barking from above.
awww.

sick

i have had the worst cold on planet earth which has left me with down time and aimless thinking.

randomness and how i passed my sick time as follows:
1). i saw this music group on sabado gigante. they were classy.
2). i'd really like a moped.
3). i bought my first pair of waterproof rain shoes for 15.00$ on ebay.
4). i watched rocky III last night and never noticed this guy, or that mickey's bedroom was pink.
5). my dream job is to photograph parkours. it's a "dream job" because i like people who fly like grasshoppers but i'm a horrible photographer.

feliz

my neighborhood used to be a lot better at showing off insane christmas decorations. i was fortunate to find one good house with crazy lights (yay). in my neighborhood there are no blinking lights with themes, music, or elaborate light perfection. just lights, working electric sockets, and more lights from the 99 cent dream.
